Why Environmental Is Different

The Call Comes
at 2 AM

A spill, a hurricane or a plant incident puts an environmental crew on the road in hours, into a state the contractor may never have worked in, under emergency rates and per diem, wearing respirators on a site where every worker needs a current HAZWOPER card and a medical clearance before they step out of the truck. The project may last three days or three years.

The employer behind that crew has to be registered everywhere already, track certifications that expire, hold medical surveillance and exposure records for decades, carry comp underwritten for hazardous work, and scale up and down with the incident without fees. Revelation was built on the Gulf Coast, where spills and storms are a season, to carry that stack.

the response difference

Revelation is headquartered in Mobile, Alabama, with offices in Houston and Pascagoula. We employ remediation and response crews across the Gulf and the Southeast every week.

Five Problems Response Work Creates
1
Emergency MobilizationCrews cross state lines in hours, triggering new withholding and comp
2
Certifications That ExpireHAZWOPER, asbestos, lead and respirator fit all lapse without tracking
3
Medical SurveillanceExposure and surveillance records retained for decades per employee
4
Hazardous Comp CodesHigh rate classifications where one incident follows you for three years
5
Projects That End SuddenlyDemobilization in a day, and termination fees would eat the margin

The Compliance Stack

Four Requirements an Environmental
Crew Can Trigger

These are the obligations that separate environmental employment from desk employment. A single mobilization touches all four.

Hazardous MaterialsHAZWOPER and Medical Surveillance

Hazardous waste operations rules require 40 hour initial training, supervised field experience and an annual eight hour refresher, plus a medical surveillance program for anyone exposed above action levels or wearing a respirator for thirty days a year. The records are audited and retained for thirty years after employment. Revelation tracks the dates and holds the records as the employer.

AbatementAsbestos and Lead Certification

Abatement work requires state issued worker and supervisor certifications that must be renewed annually, with medical clearance and respirator fit testing behind them. A lapsed card removes a worker from a regulated project. Revelation tracks certification by state and flags renewal before it lapses.

MobilizationMulti State Disaster Response

Response contracts move crews into states where the contractor has no registration, no unemployment account and no comp policy. Revelation already operates in all 50 states, so response crews are legally employed where they land the day they arrive, with no entity to stand up and no termination fees when they demobilize.

WaterfrontSpill Response on the Water

Spill response and remediation on docks, barges and navigable water moves out of state workers compensation and into USL&H and the Jones Act. Revelation carries USL&H and Maritime Employers Liability alongside its land based coverage. Read the USL&H guide →

Platform vs Field EOR

Why a Global Hiring Platform
Cannot Mobilize a Response Crew

Software led EOR platforms are built to onboard a knowledge worker in a new jurisdiction. A hazardous site asks for things their model does not contain.

Two Ways to Partner

Back Office, or Full
Operating Partner

Done With You

You own the client relationship and the invoicing. Revelation runs as your back office employment engine: onboarding, weekly response payroll, workers compensation, certification and surveillance records, benefits and HR, under white labelled documentation carrying your branding. Built for environmental contractors and staffing firms that hold the relationships and need compliant employment behind them.

Done For You

Revelation operates as a full employment partner: contracts, terms, certificates of insurance, client billing and accounts receivable, with consultative support on safety, pricing and contract structure. Built for firms expanding into new territories that want the full operational stack and the receivable risk carried for them.

“We believe great partnerships build great businesses, and every relationship we enter is one we invest in for the long term.”

FAQ

Environmental EOR Questions

What does an Employer of Record do for an environmental contractor?

+

The EOR becomes the legal employer of your field crews. It runs weekly payroll with emergency rates and per diem, withholds and files taxes in every state the crew works, carries workers compensation matched to hazardous classifications, administers benefits, and tracks HAZWOPER, abatement and medical surveillance records. You keep full control of who works, on which site, and under whose supervision.

Can crews be mobilized to a disaster in another state immediately?

+

Yes. Revelation already operates in all 50 states, so a crew that leaves the Gulf Coast tonight is legally employed where it arrives, with withholding, unemployment insurance and workers compensation in place.

Who holds HAZWOPER and medical surveillance records?

+

Revelation, as the employer of record. Training dates, refresher status, respirator fit tests, medical clearances and exposure monitoring are documented per employee and retained for the periods regulators require.

What happens when the incident is over?

+

The crew demobilizes with no termination fees and no entity to unwind. When the next project or event comes, the same technicians can be re employed in days with their certification records intact.

Is an EOR the same as an environmental staffing agency?

+

No. A staffing agency finds and supplies workers. An Employer of Record employs workers you have already identified and carries the payroll, tax, insurance and compliance obligations of employing them. Revelation is an EOR and is often engaged alongside a contractor's existing recruiting function.
